desert safari adventure

Fifteen minutes past three in the afternoon, I received a call from the reception asking if I booked for a desert safari. I hurried down to the ground floor to meet the pick- up. The driver and I went straight to Shangri- la Hotel where I met my friend, Joanna and two of her workmates, Mel and Ate Porsche. We were with other two ladies who work as Flight Attendants for Cathay Pacific. At exactly four that afternoon, our journey towards the desert started.

We drove through the desert attacking the hills of massive sand dunes. I kept on shouting every time I felt like we were going out of balance. I was very scared of going over the steep slopes. I felt like we were going to crash down. The bumps made me feel like I was in a roller coaster. The seatbelts were really a  must! It was a very challenging journey, considering that it was my first. Though it was a trip full of thrills, seeing the desert's solitude and natural beauty and the beautiful landscape amazed me.

It was also nice to see the sunset's reflection to the sands making them red.
After stopping to see the sunset, the group went to the desert camp where we enjoyed the rest of the tour package. We took photos all around the area. There was a Shisha facility and everyone could try the Arabic coffee and tea. We also tried the Arab traditional costumes. For the first time, I was able to ride a camel and I found it very peaceful and relaxing. We watched the Belly Dancing Show and Tanura Show. Included in the package was a dinner buffet with a delicious barbeque and unlimited softdrinks.

The entire experience was a great way to discover Arab culture and cuisine in just 150 Dirhams per head. The tour also included a drop- off back to the hotel at 9:00PM.
